More About SCS

SCS is based in the United States with branches in Indonesia and India. SCS partners with a wide variety of companies, government agencies and stakeholders worldwide in third party environmental, sustainability and food quality certification, auditing, testing and standards development.

SCS first began providing third-party certification services in 1984. In 1984 it became Scientific Certification Systems, Inc., and in 2012 reorganized as a Benefit Corporation under the name SCS Global Services. Benefit Corporations are a new class of California corporation with a corporate purpose to create a material positive impact on society and the environment. They are required ton consider the impact of their decisions not only on shareholders, but also on workers, community and the environment.

SCS is accredited in a number of fields by Accreditation Services International (ASI), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the California Air Resources Board (ARB)

SCS:

  • Is financially independent from its clients and has no financial backing from any institution representing clients or products
  • Operates on a fee for service basis, ensuring fees are not attached to the volume of sales of certified products
  • Has an internal quality system and company policies that ensure insulation from commericial financial and other pressures that might influence its certification processes
  • Analyzes and documents potential conflicts of interest at the start of a project and requires all personnel, internal and contracted, to reveal any potential conflicts of interest that may be known to them.
